Concerts in the Royal Łazienki Park
The Fryderyk Chopin Society has been organising concerts near the Chopin statue in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw since 1959. Some 40 piano recitals are held every year on all Sundays from mid-May until the end of September, at 12.00 and 16.00. The co-organiser of these annual concert cycles is Stołeczna Estrada.
The outdoor concerts in the Royal Łazienki Park are among the oldest music events in Warsaw. They enjoy immense popularity – for 64 years they have invariably attracted great numbers of Warsaw inhabitants and tourists. Celebrated pianists from across the globe, including winners of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, are happy to perform near the Chopin statue as they appreciate the unique atmosphere and character of this open-air venue.
The Chopin statue designed by sculptor Wacław Szymanowski is the best-known monument to the composer in the world. Its history is turbulent. Unveiled in 1926, it was blown up by the German invaders in 1940 and cut to pieces which were sent to foundries to be melted down. The statue was recreated after the war and unveiled on 11 May 1958.
