EWA SŁAWIŃSKA-DAHLIG

A musicologist, a doctor of humanities, a culture manager. Ewa Sławińska-Dahligisa Warsaw University musicology graduate (2003) and a former Socrates-Erasmus student at the Musikvidenskabeligt Institut Københavns Universitet in Denmark (2002/03). She wrote her doctoral thesis Adolphe Gutmann w kręgu uczniów i przyjaciół Fryderyka Chopina. Działalność artystyczna i udział w życiu muzycznym Europy XIX wieku [Adolphe Gutmann in the circle of Fryderyk Chopin’s pupils and friends: his artistic work and participation in the musical life of nineteenth-century Europe] under the supervision of Prof. Irena Poniatowska in Warsaw University’s Faculty of History (2017). In 2024 she completed a postgraduate course in management at Warsaw University.

A recipient of creative scholarships awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, she has written several books, including Adolphe Gutmann – ulubiony uczeń Chopina [Adolphe Gutmann: Chopin’s Favourite Pupil], Warsaw 2013 and Chopin w Sannikach. Konteksty historyczno-kulturowe [Chopin in Sanniki: Historical and Cultural Contexts, tr. John Comber], Sanniki 2009 and has authored dozens of scholarly and popularising articles in the fields of Chopin studies and ethnomusicology. She is the editor-in-chief of the “Rocznik Chopinowski” [Chopin Yearbook] whose publication was resumed in 2018. She has edited and coordinated many publishing projects and has attended Polish and international musicological conferences. She worked with the Foundation for the Polish National Edition of the Works of Fryderyk Chopin and the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, and sat on the jury of the All-Poland Knowledge-about-Chopin Competition (Warsaw 2012, 2013).

Ewa Sławińska-Dahlig has won several awards, including the Award of the Speaker of Łódź Voivodeship (2007, 2013), for her services to culture (dissemination and protection of cultural heritage) and a diploma of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for her commitment to propagating traditional culture (2016). A cultural organiser and consultant, she has served on the juries of music competitions. From 2003-2020 she was involved, in her capacity as instructor, with the activities of the Łódź Cultural Centre.

She is a member of the Musicology Section of the Polish Composers’ Union, the Polish Ethnological Society, the Warsaw Musical Society (member of the Board since 2023) and the Fryderyk Chopin Society (Board member 2016-2021); currently the Chopin Society’s General Director (since March 2020).
